It is a requirement that warnings be included for any Work posted upon the AFFA Competition Website, so as to give every site visitor and AFFA Competition Participant the right to choose what they wish to access in terms of content. Since the AFFA Competition is open to almost every genre of Adult Work it must be recognized that not every Competition Participant will wish to access the every type of content available. For example, some Participants may not wish to access Heterosexual works, or those containing Alternate Universe characters. Where there are clear content warnings given there is little risk that anyone may access content that they may find distasteful. And that also reduces the risk of unwarranted negative feedback occurring for the Author or Artist.

Below is a listing of common terms utilized in content warnings and discussions for Adult TMNT Adult Works, including definitions.  If you can think of any terms to add to this list, or any that are currently on here that could use editing, feel free to discuss them upon the AFFA Forum Guide to Warnings thread.

Warnings are given in conjunction with Ratings. A Guide to Ratings is available upon the AFFA Forum.

Heterosexual (aka; Het, Hentai) – Sexual acts or innuendo between partners of differing physical gender. (ie male/female). This can include acts involving more than two participants, where intercourse is not shared between same sex participants.

Homosexual (aka; Homo-erotic) – Sexual acts or innuendo between partners of the same physical gender. (ie male/male OR female/female). This can include acts involving more than two participants, where intercourse is shared between same sex participants.

Slash (aka; Yaoi, Gay) – Homosexual acts or innuendo specifically between male participants only.

Turtleslash – Homosexual acts or innuendo specifically between one of the TMNT and another male participant, not another TMNT. This does not preclude groups involving more than one TMNT, so long as the TMNT involved do not engage in sexual intercourse together.

Femmeslash (aka; Yuri, Lesbian) – Homosexual acts or innuendo specifically between female participants only.

Incest (aka; ‘cest) – Sexual acts or innuendo between related individuals of any gender.

Turtlecest (aka; Brotherly Love) – Sexual acts or innuendo specifically between two or more of the TMNT.

Non-Consensual (aka; Non-con, Rape) – Sexual acts where the victim does not give any consent to the act; either verbally, implied or tacit.

Aggressive Seduction - Sexual acts that appear to be Non-Consensual where the victim does give their consent to the act; be it verbal, implied or tacit.

BDSM (aka; Kink) – BDSM covers a very wide range of activities and ideologies, under the Guideline ‘safe, sane and consensual’. For more information check out this website; BDSM Defined care of the Fetish Manor

Extreme Kink – Any kink which exceeds the Guideline ‘safe, sane and consensual’. For example; Snuff (a sexual act resulting in death either intentionally or accidentally).

Canon Character – Any character (good, bad or ugly!) that appears in any of the official TMNT comics, toons or movies.

Original Character (aka; OC) – A character created by the Author / Artist that is not found within any official TMNT comic, toon or movie, or is based on any Canon Character.

Alternate Universe Character (aka; AU) – A character created by the Author / Artist that is based on a Canon Character, but that has been altered in such a way as they differ markedly from the Canon Character found within any official TMNT comic, toon or movie. For example; Humanized versions of the TMNT.

Crossover - A story involving characters or scenarios from two separate Canon sources. The differing Canon characters do not have to be sexually involved with each other for a work to be considered a Crossover, only have to co-exist in the same work in some way. For example; Aliens x TMNT, Buffy the Vampire Slayer x TMNT, Ranma 1/2 x TMNT. It IS possible for some crossover stories to be themselves Canon as well. For example; Usagi x TMNT, Savage Dragon x TMNT.

Canon - The body of works (including any comics, movies, books, TV shows, blogs, interviews, etc...) that have been published, or officially endorsed, by the original creators and/or copyright holders of a concept. The original creators of the TMNT were Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Mirage Studios holds the copyright for them.

Fanon - An individual's personal interpretation and extrapolation of the Canon works. An individual's Fanon may be in strict alignment with Canon, or vary greatly from it. Often it lies between these two extremes.

Fandom - Refers collectively to all the people who are fans of a Canon.

OTP (aka; One True Pairing) - An anagram regularly used when discussing adult works. It refers to a pairing a particular person has adopted as their favourite / most believable within their own Fanon. OTPs may be pairings that are not present in Canon in any way (ie Mike/LH), are hinted at in Canon but are not confirmed (ie Leo/Karai), or are Canon (ie April/Casey).

OT4 - A play on OTP, this refers to Turtlecest works where all four turtles are involved in sexual relations together in some way.

A TASTE FOR EVERY TASTE

Adult works are often referenced with a 'flavour'. These can also be used as warnings. Many thanks to the kind folks at Stealthy Stories:NFU for enlightening many of us on the meanings of these.

Vanilla - Sex with no kink what-so-ever. A purely procreative act.

Chocolate - Sex with kink. If it could be considered 'dark' in any way, it's chocolate.

Strawberry - The fine line between Vanilla and Chocolate. Vanilla sex that starts to lean towards Chocolate, but never actually gets there.

Orange - Exotic stuff. Space-suit sex, tentacles, cross-species love (many TMNT Adult works fall into this category by default). Sometimes emphasizes the "forbidden" aspect of these.

Lemon - A work that contains explicit sex scenes.

Lime - A work that contains sexual themes, but is not explicit. OR a work that contains explicit foreplay, with no actual sexual intercourse occurring.
