These are the general rules governing the AFFA Competition.  Information specific to a particular Competition, such as the actual competition dates, the Nominations Listing and Winners Listing can be accessed on the pages relevant for each year’s Competition.

THE NOMINATIONS WINDOW

The first two weeks of the AFFA Competition are designated the ‘Nominations Window’.  Nominations may only be submitted using the Online Nomination Form.  Only one Nomination Form per person per Competition may be submitted.

For more details on Nominations see the Nominations Rules.

THE PREPARATION / READING WINDOW

The next three weeks of the AFFA Competition are designated the ‘Preparation and Reading Windows’.    No Nominations will be accepted during the Preparation and Reading Windows.  Votes will only be accepted during the Preparation and Reading Windows under exceptional circumstances. (ie Only if you will not have access to the internet at all during Voting Window and organize to submit your votes prior with the AFFA Staff).

The Nominations Listing is posted within the first week of the Preparation and Reading Window.  The week nominally devoted to ‘Preparation’ allows ample time for those authors and artists who are Nominated late in the Nomination Window a chance to either give or decline permission for their works to be included in that year’s AFFA Competition.  It also allows for the Nominations Listing, and the stories being hosted upon the AFFA Competition Website, to be finalized prior to the two week Reading Window.

If an Author/Artist declines permission for their work to be included, or fails to respond to the Request for their works to be included from the AFFA Staff, their work will be removed from the AFFA Competition for that year.

THE VOTING WINDOW

The final two week block of the competition is designated the ‘Voting Window’.  Voting Ballots may only be submitted using the Online Voting Ballot Form.  Only one Voting Ballot per person per Competition may be submitted.

NO SELF VOTING.

For more details on Voting see the Voting Rules.

THE WINNERS LISTING

The ‘Winners Listing’ is posted as soon as possible after the close of the Voting Window.  This is often within 48 hours of the close of the Voting Window.

In the event that two or more works receive an equal number of votes, and enough to be eligible for a First, Second or Third placement, they will be considered ‘tied’ and share in the accolade.

The creators’ of the works which achieve a First, Second or Third placement will receive a Certificate for each Category in which they place in due course.  The Certificates are issued as soon as possible after the end of the Competition.  However, due to the time it takes to produce the artwork and then format the Certificates, it may be up to two to three months before they are delivered.

THE CATEGORIES

Here is a Listing of the 21 AFFA Competition Categories and their descriptions, as they currently stand;

Most Distinctive Don – Working on his own, with a group, Yaoi, Hentai, one-shot, multi-chapter, whatever.  The best scene you’ve read this year for the canon Brainiac.  However, this does not exclude stories that also feature other canon / AU / OC characters.

Most Literal Leo – Working on his own, with a group, Yaoi, Hentai, one-shot, multi-chapter, whatever.  The best scene you’ve read this year for canon ‘Fearless’.  However, this does not exclude stories that also feature other canon / AU / OC characters.

Most Mesmeric Mike – Working on his own, with a group, Yaoi, Hentai, one-shot, multi-chapter, whatever.  The best scene you’ve read this year for the canon Jokester.  However, this does not exclude stories that also feature other canon / AU / OC characters.

Most Riveting Raph – Working on his own, with a group, Yaoi, Hentai, one-shot, multi-chapter, whatever.  The best scene you’ve read this year for the canon Hot-head.  However, this does not exclude stories that also feature other canon / AU / OC characters.

Most Spot-On Supporting Character – Working on their own, with a group, Yaoi, Yuri, Hentai, one-shot, multi-chapter, whatever.  The best scene you’ve read this year for a CANON supporting character.  A 'canon supporting character' is any character (good, bad or ugly!) other than the TMNT that appears in any of the official comics, toons or movies. OC's and AU’s are not canon supporting characters.  However, this does not exclude stories that also feature other canon (including the TMNT) / AU / OC characters.

Most Outstanding OC Character – Working on their own, with a group, Yaoi, Yuri, Hentai, one-shot, multi-chapter, whatever.  The best scene you’ve read this year for an Original Character (OC).  An Original Character is any character (good, bad or ugly!) that is NOT based upon a Canon Character in any way.  OC’s are purely the creation of the story Author. AU's and Canon Supporting Characters are not Original Characters.  However, this does not exclude stories that also feature Canon and AU characters.

Best Group – The story featuring the best innuendo / sex-scene involving more than two participants of any gender, multiple turtles or none, in some way, including observation. (m/m/m; f/f/f, m/f/m, f/m/f…)

Best Turtlecest – The story featuring the best innuendo / sex-scene occurring between two of the TMNT in a pairing.

Best Yaoi / Yuri – The story featuring the best innuendo / sex-scene involving two participants of the same physical gender, excluding Turtlecest. (m/m; f/f)

Best Hentai – The story featuring the best innuendo / sex-scene involving two participants of differing physical gender. (m/f)

Best Twist – At any point in the story; a surprise ending or an unexpected occurrence.

Most Thought-Provoking – Hmmmm… gotta think about that one!  Some of the most thought-provoking stories are not written with the intent of being Erotica.  That does not make such stories any less eligible for this Competition.

Most Humorous – “It has been wisely said that we cannot really love anybody at whom we never laugh.” (c/o Agnes Repplier)

Best Use of a Prop – Whips an’ chains, or a piece of fruit.

Best Use of a Tail – Well, we are talkin’ turtles here. (And rats, crocs, various aliens… the list goes on!)

Best Multi-Chapter Story – Any story that contains more than one chapter in its own right, or is an excerpt from a multi-chapter story.

Best Alternate Universe Story – The best story set in an Alternate Universe.  An Alternate Universe is created by the Author and is based upon the Canon characters/scenarios, but is altered in such a way it differs markedly from the Canon version. For example; Humanized versions of the TMNT, or Master Splinter never existed.  Stories based upon Canon plotlines, but take the plot in a slightly different direction, are not considered AU stories.

Most Romantic – Awwwww.

Best Non-Consensual – ARRRGH!  Any story that features or references an act of Aggressive Seduction; that is, Erotica in which the reluctant, tacit or implied consent of the ‘victim’ is given only. OR any story that features or references a True Non-Consensual act; that is, there is no consent given by the victim in any way.  True Non-Consensual stories are often not written with the intent of being Erotica.  That does not make such stories any less eligible for this Competition.

Hawtest Artwork Eva! – The all time best TMNT Adult artwork.  Pictures, Fan-comics, Animation, any style of artwork.  From any time, from anywhere!
